Long Term Care (LTC) Fellow

The Economic Security Project (ESP) is seeking a Long Term Care (LTC) Fellow to build out a new body of work situating long-term care within ESP’s broader affordability agenda. This is a half-time, two-year fellowship, estimated 20 hours a week of work, for someone who wants to develop original policy research and help shape a growing area of ESP’s platform.

The Fellow will map the long-term care policy landscape, author a flagship policy paper connecting LTC to ESP’s affordability framework, and help integrate long-term care into existing campaigns. They will help advise ESP on important matters related to LTC and work to build LTC into the current landscape of economic priorities. Over the course of the fellowship, the Fellow will build relationships with coalition partners, contribute to a major convening on long-term care and the health reform fight, and produce a second, campaign-facing research product in year two.

Responsibilities  

• Research and write a flagship policy paper situating long-term care within ESP's affordability framework, with actionable policy recommendations

• Support development of ESP's health care platform, including policy memos, briefs, and talking points that integrate long-term care into ESP's broader health reform arguments

• Represent ESP in relevant coalition spaces, including the Affordability Campaigns Collaborative and other priority external tables, and build new coalition partnerships

• Help represent and support ESP when it comes to amplifying LTC in the popular discussion, whether that’s op-eds, social media, interviews with reporters, and more.

• Help plan and execute a major convening (year two) bringing together long-term care policy experts, health reform advocates, and policymakers

• Author a second campaign-facing research product or policy brief in year two, building on research produced in year one

Logistics 

• Commitment: 50% time (part-time), for a two-year term

• Compensation: $80,000/year

• Benefits: This is a contract position without access to benefits

• Reports to: Shafeka Hashash, Director of Cash Initiatives

Experience and Qualifications 

Requirements

• Graduate degree or equivalent knowledge and experience in a relevant field (e.g., economics, law, sociology, public policy)

• 3-10 years of experience in policy research, analysis, or advocacy, ideally touching health care, long-term care, aging policy, and/or economic security

• Strong analytical and writing skills, with the ability to translate research into clear, persuasive material for policy and public audiences

• Comfort engaging directly with coalition partners, advocacy organizations, and policymakers

• Self-directed and able to manage a multi-year research project with minimal day-to-day oversight, given the part-time nature of the role

• Familiarity with Medicaid, Medicare, and/or long-term care policy
